Let your shopping agent check the shop before it pays.
One call tells your agent whether the shop on a domain is a real, active company in a European business register, and whether the domain belongs to that company. 100 free lookups a month, then €10 for 150. Get a key in one click, no sign-up.
Tested on 100 live domains: every shop whose company number we could read was verified, and none of the 25 copy-shops was.

As an MCP tool
Connect your agent to the remote MCP server. It gets one tool, check_merchant, and calls it before it pays an unfamiliar shop.

Or as a plain API call
Send the shop’s domain. Add the VAT number from the checkout page if your agent has it.
curl "https://api.checkbiz.eu/v1/merchant-check?domain=coolshop.dk" -H "X-API-Key: YOUR_KEY"
Your agent decides
The answer says what was found and where: the company in the register, its VAT number, and what ties the domain to it. Your agent pays, asks the user, or walks away.
What your agent gets back
- verified: the shop names a registered, active company, and the domain itself is tied to that company, for example by the business register or years of carrying its name and number.
- partial: the shop names a registered company, but nothing ties the domain to it yet. A brand-new shop or a copy can look like this.
- not_found: no registered company could be linked to the domain, or the site could not be read. Send the VAT number from the checkout page to check the company directly.
- attention: something does not add up. The company has closed, the VAT number is invalid, the number on the site belongs to another company, or the domain is on a public phishing list.
Every answer lists its sources: the national register, VIES or HMRC for VAT, sanctions lists for the company, and the domain’s registration date and certificate. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the UK are covered in full, other EU countries through their registers and VIES.

Common questions
Why is a company number on the shop’s website not enough?
A copy of a shop copies the footer too, company number included. Merchant Check only answers verified when something ties the domain itself to the company: the business register lists the domain, the website’s certificate is issued to the company, or the domain has carried the company’s name and number for years.
Does it tell my agent a shop is a scam?
No. It returns what the registers and the website show at the time of the check, with the source of each fact. Your agent, or the person it shops for, makes the decision.
What happens when a website cannot be read?
Some large shops block automated visits. Merchant Check then answers not_found and says the site could not be read. Pass the VAT number from the checkout page, and the company is checked in the register directly.
Is this a KYC or anti-money-laundering check?
No. It is a lookup of public registers for your agent’s own decision, not a compliance check for regulated businesses.
Does the answer contain personal data?
No. Answers are about companies. Sole traders are shown without their name, and people are not screened. Your free key is anonymous: we store no email and no name.
How does it treat the shop’s website?
It reads at most four public pages (home, imprint, terms, about), follows the site’s robots.txt, and never fills in a form or places an order. Answers are kept for 24 hours, so repeat checks do not visit the shop again.
